Hi, I’m Michael.

Hi, I’m Michael.

I’m a photographer based in Langley, working across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. Over the last three years I’ve shot nearly 300 photoshoots, some for fun and some for work, and I’d love for yours to be next.

HOW IT STARTED

My First Camera

A month before a family trip to Africa, I took this photo of a pool table on my phone. My friend Delaney saw it and told me I had an eye for photography. Looking back, it’s laughable at best, but I’ve never forgotten how it made me feel, or the spark it lit.

A month later, at 16, I got my first real camera for that trip, and I became obsessed almost immediately. For years my passion came and went, usually fading during the school term and resurfacing in the summer.

Then one summer I wanted to see how much I could improve, so I practised almost every day. I love landscapes, but the easiest way to practise was going out with friends and snapping pictures of our adventures together. I still do that today, with just as much passion.

Shot this on my phone, and yeah… a humble beginning, let's say.

DRONE PHOTOGRAPHY · BUSH CREEK EAST WILDFIRE, 2023

My Proudest Work: Shuswap Strong

In the summer of 2023, the Bush Creek East wildfire nearly took my home and burned half of my dad and uncle’s business in the Shuswap. Near the end of the fire, I sent my drone up in the low morning sun and shot straight down. The dark lines are the shadows of the trees still standing.

The photo won two national photography awards, the Young Blood Award and the Nature/Landscape Award, and led to an interview with Applied Arts Magazine. Aerial photography is now part of what I offer, too. If you need a view from above, just ask.

HOW I WORK

Fun comes first.

COUPLES, FRIENDS & FAMILIES

“That was pretty fun, actually!”

My number one priority is just having fun. No one should feel uncomfortable in front of a camera, and it’s surprisingly easy to get over the awkward feeling of “posing”. A bit of fun or a simple joke goes a long way. After a photoshoot, I’m hoping you walk away thinking “that was pretty fun, actually!” and that you’d want to do it again.

BUSINESSES

Professional and easy to work with.

For businesses, my priority is keeping it professional with a frictionless partnership. Quick turnarounds, clear communication, and simple pricing packages make it easy to focus on what really matters: the relationship we build.

WHY $200/HR

It’s not all about the money.

It’s not all about the money.

$200 an hour has been my “friends and family” rate for the past three years. Lately I’ve noticed prices keep rising, and photographers are demanding more and more for their time.

As a photographer, I have a secret to share with you: it’s never been faster to edit a photo. That means photographers are getting paid more for doing less work. A valiant goal, but there’s a cost, and it’s put on the client who doesn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a few photos.

So I’m extending my friends and family rate to everyone, as a message to my fellow photographers: it’s not all about the money.
